Not sure if this is the right palce but my favourite book of all time is Catch 22 and it has some great quotes. Here's just a few.
"He had decided to live forever or die in the attempt, and his only mission each time he went up was to come down alive."
"'What is a country? A country is a piece of land surrounded on all sides by boundaries, usually unnatural. Englishmen are dying for England, Americans are dying for America, Germans are dying for Germany, Russians are dying for Russia. There are now fifty or sixty countries fighting in this war. Surely so many counties can't all be worth dying for.'"
"Morale was deteriorating and it was all Yossarian's fault. The country was in peril; he was jeopardizing his traditional rights of freedom and independence by daring to exercise them."

It's written by Joseph Heller. It featured in theat BBC top books thing. A film was made of it around 1969 but isn't a patch on the book.
Some more
"Clevinger had a mind, and Lieutenant Scheisskopf had noticed that people with minds tended to get pretty smart at times."
"What could you do with a man who looked you squarely in the eye and said he would rather die than be killed in combat... "
"It doesn't make a d**ned bit of difference who wins the war to someone who's dead."
And one for the religious amongst us. "How much reverence can you have for a Supreme Being who finds it necessary to include such phenomena as phlegm and tooth decay in His divine system of creation?"

Hey is there some filter thing on this site? It won't let you type "d**ned"
See! d**n
Will it let you type darn?
Oh yes. What about bollocks?
That's funny it does.
I think this because this site in American hosted and they don't understand bollocks but d**n is considered blasphamy. Funny old world in it?

LOL that word filter is crazy!!! I didn't set one manually but it seems to do so itself...u should see the words it uses to substitute biological references to genitalia!!! LOL
Anyway, thanks for the extra quotes and the author details...I was familiar with the name of the book, and suspected that there might have been a film of it somewhere along the line...
Will see if I can come across a copy of it, sounds very interesting...
