(To Germaine Greer, Jill Rubery and others, oh yes others!) Successful women who have won their way, Alone, with strength of their unaided arm Or helped by friends, or softly climbing up By the sweet aide of women's influence Successful any way, and caring nought For any other woman's plight. These tell us they have the rights they want. And out of these has come a monstrous thing. A strange, down-sucking whirlpool of disgrace. Women uniting against womanhood And using that great name to hide their sin! Vain are their words as that old king's command Who set his will against the rising tide. But who shall measure the historic shame Of these poor traiters - traitors are they all. To freedom for all women and to womanhood, it is FREEDOM WE WANT, NOT PHILANTHROPY. (Adapted from an old suffrage song written about women who were anti-suffragists. Dedicated to the memory of great works by Ada Nield Chew and Selina Cooper, who had their feelings awakened because of their experience, because of what they saw around them every day). Oh yes, I meant to add that I think if Ada Nield Chew and Selina Cooper were alive today, they would be working with local anarchists round these 'ere parts.
