AN ODE TO THE SUBBIE (edited)
"When I was young and finding my feet I was given advice I could learn from. Like, 'The world doesn't owe you a living son'; And 'Do the best that you're able.'
'Always be honest, hardworking and keen' 'Be prepared to put your cards on the table' 'A clean job is always a safe one son' 'And do the best at all times that you're able'
All this advice was given in faith, By men who believed this to be true. What would they say if they came back today, To work for a priate like you?
How can these values be upheld with trust, When we are held in contempt and derise? Deprived of our safety, rights and pride, By those we have cause to despise.
Your greed and profit blinkers all sight, And nothing must hinder your gain Nor welfare, safety or statutory rights, Or a family's ultimate pain."
