Did anyone see ‘Faith’ on BBC Monday night? It was a drama set around the Miner’s strike of 84/85. I was really disappointed. Some of the interspersing of original footage within the play did give it a good feel and it did make some good points but overall the script and the acting weren’t up to much. Some of the characters were pretty two-dimensional and you could spot the MI5 guy straight off.
It still gets me though when did the march back after the strike ended. I was in tears that day. We’re still suffering from that defeat. One thing though for me it certainly focused my ideas and from that time I was a committed anarcho-syndicalist instead of some wishy-washy anarchist/libertarian socialist!

I didn't see the prog Steve, wish I had, even if the acting was a little 'off'...the subject matter is very close to my heart as my dad was a miner and was involved in the Strike too...
He got a lot of 'stick' for breaking the strike because he believed the spin about it being an illegal one...
I must admit, although I could see the point of the strike at the time, I just assumed what my dad was telling me about it must have been correct...maybe you could fill me in on the background of it all a little...
I was only viewing it from the standpoint of being the daughter of a miner, desperate for the pits not to close...but not fully aware of the legalities or not of the strike...
