Tuesday 24th
Day and early evening. G8 - Films - and discussion
about the G8
Kickin off about 9pm, tunes from Dom (Blood and Fire
Sound System) and
Damien (Defunkles) down at LostnFound squatted social
centre on tuesday evening. Dom plays the very best in
Jamaican music from roots and rocksteady to
heavyweight dub and dancehall. I'll be playing
fragmented rhythms and sounds cleaved from other
people's music and sown back together like a wierd
quilt, mixed in with my own tunes. And maybe some
records too...
Come down and check out THE best venue in Manc while
you still can - its free/donations to the centre. bar
and cafe too.
Venue is just after Band on the Wall on Swan St - its
the old Smithfield market building/ aka mackie-mayor
building, and its a beauty !

Wednesday 25th
Climate Change day - Lost and Found -
Workshops, talks, discussions,
Truth Poets Society - Lost and Found - ruf mouth
finding poet / mc talent and introducing it loudly!
Cafe Meeting - Basement Social Centre - 6pm - keep the
cafe running smoothly and how to get involved.
General Meeting - Basement Social Centre - 7pm
To discuss practicalities, plans for the future and to
continue discussion from the Visioning Day. Please
come along if you can! It's really important to keep
the ideas we had going..
Film Night Indymedia - 8.30pm - Basement Social Centre
Drowned Out tells a tragic story that will inspire,
disturb and anger you at the same time.
Beautifully shot, perfectly paced, thoughtful,
articulate and intelligent, it has a strong point of
view, but director Franny Armstrong has made the very
wise choice of not shoving it in your face from the
start. Instead it flows and builds in a thoroughly
engrossing and calm manner.
A family of Adivasis (indigenous Indians) examine
their options and decide to stay in their village and
drown rather than make way for an ambitious and
severley flawed mega dam project. The film is a record
of their struggle and a movement to stop the project,
against overwhelming odds.
