CALLING ALL ANTI-FASCISTS
A message from Manchester Unite Against Fascism.
Earlier this year, the BNP's youth organiser, Tony Wentworth, who is a student at Salford University, ran for office in a student union election. Student supporters of Unite Against Fascism campaigned - very successfully - to prevent his winning. Wentworth received the lowest vote anyone can remember in such an election.
During the campaign, BNP members - both Wentworth himself and Joey Owen - physically assaulted two of our student supporters, Chris Tavner and David Robinson. Both students have - with UAF support - pursued charges of assault and actual bodily harm against their BNP assailants.
The cases are due to be heard in Salford Magistrates Court next week, beginning on Wednesday 6th October and Thursday 7th October.
We ask every anti-fascist who is able to get there to join a solidarity picket outside the court from 9.00 a.m. each morning - to lend moral support to the Nazi thugs' victims who have to stand up in court and describe their ordeals.
The Magistrates Court is in Chapel Street, Salford.
We will hold a quiet, peaceful and orderly picket, which will not prejudice the cases. We need as many people there as possible, to make it clear that BNP thugs will not intimidate us in our campaigns to stop them gaining any election victories in this area. UAF will supply placards for the picket.
Those people who are able to stay for a while are invited to sit quietly in the public area of the courtroom, in support of Chris and David.
Please come if you possibly can, and pass this message on to your union, party, church, community or other group.
