Or could it? A report from 7th June 2004, Guardian special reports, outlined the threats to Earby and Barnoldswick, of BNP councillors being elected there. Fortunately by the efforts of the Pendle Unite Against Fascism group, leafletting and holding stalls across the region, the BNP were prevented from gaining any seats in Pendle. Whilst preventing fascists from being elected to power is a worthwhile job in itself. The problem remains that the BNP and fascism are a product of a lack of political will on behalf of this and previous governments to tackle poverty and other obvious problems facing the working class. The political sysytem is at fault because there is no obvious redress for discontented voters. If we want to rid ourselves of fascism we need to change the system so that we have an input in to society other than voting for our oppressors.
