Royal Ascot Fashion and Attire
Remember that golden rule, 'Jeans, shorts, trainers or sports attire are not permitted'. Dress code will carry over to York, so here's a quick run through.
If the Royals do attend York, which they no doubt will, then a Royal Enclosure will be designated and it's in this area where the strictest dress codes apply! Knotted white handkerchiefs at all four corners are obligatory for men over 35 years. Under 35 years, sports caps, preferably Burberry fake caps are required. For general attire, the queen likes to see a strapping lad in an England football shirt, with obligatory sports trainers. For ladies, boob tubes, tight leather mini skirts and thigh length, preferably leather, boots are compulsory.
Ok, here's the real deal - ladies must wear smart dress with a hat in the Royal Enclosure. If you're donning a trouser suit it must be matching, i.e. if the top's luminous green, then so should the trousers be! Gents - you're in full black or grey morning dress, inclusive of top hat etc. Where you are on the race course, ie. Royal Enclosure, private boxes, different stands can dictate slightly different forms of dress code. Smart jeans (with a crease down the middle?!) are usually allowed in the members enclosure, combined with smart shirt and tie - yuck! It all gets rather complicated and stressful.
Can you have a disco in the coach park after racing - no you can't. Loud music and discos in the coach park are not permitted at any time! Ladies Day at Royal Ascot usually occurs on the Thursday, this year it's the 17th June. Ladies, why not log onto the Ascot website and treat yourselves to a £350 cashmere wrap!
