Are you a homosexual, or bisexual, or have friends that are, and feel strongly about the way they are potrayed in the media?
Have you had problems because of your sexual orientation?
Do you have strong beliefs against homosexuality...keep it polite please...?
Please use this board to post all of your views on the above and other 'gay' issues...

Hi,
I saw this great documentary film last night about young lesbian girls, thought it was really interestin (and moving, two of them hadn't come out to their parents at first) since lesbians usually don't get as much attention in the mdia etc. as gays do,or is that just my opinion?
Also, I think that gays are portrayed very much like stereotypes in the media, but at the same time it's not very strange. Take gay men for example, most of the gay men who are in the spotlight, are the 'camp' ones and I don't know if it's because they're the only ones that want to be in the media or if they're the only ones the media want. What do you think?

The only real media coverage I see over here is the sensationalised kissing that happens in our tv soaps!! As for the 'camp' gay men being portrayed, perhaps the reason the gay men we see on tv are the campier ones is because they are the theatrical ones too, who just love 'luvving up' to the cameras. Would love to hear some comments regarding these and other bi, gay, and lesbian issues from members of that community...to provide some balance perhaps? Thank you, Michele

I know, I actually wrote that at first but then it sounded...strange so I removed it but that's definately a reason too I think(which also makes the whole thing more understandable doesn't it?) Yes Embla,
It does make more sense that 'camp' gay characters are being portrayed rather than non camp if the actors/entertainers we are seeing who are gay are very 'camp'...perhaps it would be better if a few non camp gay men became more up front...to break down these stereotypes.
