SAY NO TO I.D CARDS! PUBLIC MEETING AT CENTRAL METHODIST CHURCH, HARGREAVES STREET, BURNLEY ON THURSDAY, 27TH OCTOBER 2005 COMMENCES 7PM, ENDS 9PM SPEAKER: JOHN SIMPKIN CHAIR: JUDITH SIMPKIN FOLLOWED BY GENERAL DISCUSSION SAY NO TO ID CARDS! The decision of the Labour Government to issue I.D. Cards is an intrusion on privacy and freedom. It is not necessary and is simply a further step in the direction of eradicating our civil liberties. The Government’s intention is simply to bring in a Corporate State where every aspect of our lives will be bound up in the system. Hitler's Germany, Stalin's Russia, Italy under Mussolini and Franco's Spain all followed this line. We must stop it. Our Civil Liberties and much more are at stake. The Government will control not only our identity, but also our standing within the community. They will control our lives Not only this! We as individuals will be expected to pay for this document. Labour admit the cost of the document will be £5.5 billion. That is £200 per tax payer, enough to pay for 30 hospitals. 600 new schools could be built for this price but it will all come from Your pocket and will be a further step in our subjection to the Corporate State. Over the years various Governments have set up many modern complex systems designed to control their citizens. Most have been failures, costly failures. The I.D.System will be the most intricate system the state has set up. You will be fined £1000, if you forget to update your details. You will be fingerprinted , eye, scanned and tagged like a criminal. You will be held responsible for any incorrect data entries. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOUR LIFE WHEN THE SYSTEM BREAKS DOWN? Do not forget the fiasco of the Child Support Agency! Even now after all this time it doesn't work as it was meant to. Every aspect of life Social, Welfare and Health will depend on your having this card. This scheme will make Britain a police state. Your future lies in your hands at this time, don't let this slide! ACT NOW! COME ALONG TO THE PUBLIC MEETING AND FIND OUT MORE. LEAFLETS & FURTHER INFORMATION AVAILABLE AT MEETING.

Mitch, thanks for this message on Thursday...I didn't know what had been wrong with Becki at the time, but thanks for your support for her when she rang you, and for your offer to visit her if I wasn't around and she needed company!!
I must apologise to all who attended, for my not being there...unfortunately I was at a very low ebb, due to a virus and lots of annoying things occurring on Thursday daytime, which just made me plummet to the depths of depression again...fortunately I took myself off to bed at 9pm instead of swilling down tons of wine, which was what I first had intended to do.
Please tell me how the meeting went, and send any kind of Minutes...would be most interested to hear what was said and about any further meetings being planned around this.

SO IT WAS DEFINITELY HEADLESS OR LlITTLE BILLY SMITH!` Ha ha, no it wasn't that type of funny phone call - this one I actually talked to the person (although I certainly would include all phone calls talking with Headless in this category also - when I last spoke with him just beforehe set off on his travels, he had a foul cold, and had a husky, sexy voice. I told him he sounded like Eartha Kit! He seemed pleased? You were a superb chair last week by the way, and what a great talk. Talk notes coming up in another thread. tara Mitch

RE: BURNLEY & PENDLE DEFY ID - NEXT MEETING DETAILS: - THURSDAY, 10TH NOVEMBER 2005, CENTRAL METHODISTS, HARGREAVES ST, BURNLEY (OPPOSITE BLOCKBUSTERS/ADJACENT TO BURNLEY TOWN HALL MEETING COMMENCES: 7PM—ALL WELCOME
Just to let you know, we’ve now booked the above date for our next meeting in the same room at Burnley Methodists as last time.
All welcome, and hopefully we can get to work electing officials for various roles, eg. Press release officer, chair, minute taker/admin, fund raiser and so forth, and discuss ideas on raising awareness in Burnley and Pendle on the issue of ID cards.
As raised in the last meeting, a press release did go out (many thanks to Mick for writing it and Michele B. for distributing—great stuff), and was published in the Burnley Express on 4th November (see attached). We’re working on other local newspapers to identify the right contacts.
Look forward to seeing you again.
Best wishes.

Hi all,
I've made contact with the 'new controller' of the retail kiosk in Burnley centre for our Anti ID stall, and unfortunately it's not available for the 10th December.
What I'm gonna do though at some point over the next few days is contact all the Burnley & Pendle Defy ID group, and suggest we now do this stall in the New Year - and pick up the meetings then again, as the main focus in Burnley at the moment is the potential closure/move to Blackburn of the Intensive Care Unit. There is a rally and march in central Burnley this weekend on Saturday, 2nd December (all are meeting at the Peace Gardens at 10.30am for the march through Burnley, then back to the Peace Gardens by Burnley Library for a rally. On 10th December there is a similar rally and march in central Colne).
Also, there's much work to do in the build up to the large public meeting against telecommunication masts on 20th January 2006.
It's sensible to get the timing right on these things, and to make sure we ain't burning out doing too many things!! ;D
I'm thinking end of Jan will be better for this stall in the glass house in Burnley.
More later. tara Mitch
