Read on about this building campaign by Residents Against Pendle Council building unnecessary houses on a beautiful conservation area between Colne and Nelson, purely for more money in their pockets.

Also, for further news on the campaign, there are discussions being had by campaigners on the Pendle talk forum here:

There is an online petition on there very informative website above which I've signed in support.
Who are we?
R.A.G.E.- Residents Against Gib Hill Exploitation - is an action group set up by local residents to champion nature conservation at Gib Hill. Originally formed in 1997 as a response to Pendle Borough Council's plans to develop part of the site for housing, which it then succeeded in stopping, RAGE has recently been re-incarnated to fight off new proposals by the Council in their current draft Local Plan to build at least 373* houses on the Southwest (Marsden) side of the site and 318* on the Northeast (Knotts Lane) side, i.e. 700 dwellings in this small "green lung" between Nelson and Colne.
Working together with our friends from the "Get Knotted!" action group and the Tum Hills Residents Association , we aim to fight this encroachment onto our borough's green fields. We believe that these housing developments are undesirable and unnecessary and, simply put, are an exploitation of this green land by the land owners - one of whom is Pendle Borough Council - for massive financial gain. The Gib Hill fields, ourselves and hopefully you, are all that stand in the way of the culmination of a long standing stealth strategy to merge Nelson and Colne into a single urban sprawl. We are proud to acknowledge that our campaign enjoys cross-party support but we need your help to keep up the pressure on the decision makers. We hope you find this web site informative and we hope that we can count on your support.
On another note, this is rather interesting also:
www.thisislancashire.co.uk/lancashire/colne/news/NEWSCOL0.html, with sitdown protests.
Interesting, and I'd support it, but grassroots liberalism has it's own problems does it not. Funny how history repeats itself!
Three cheers for Mr Greeves Don't you just lurve 'Lords of the Manors'!
