Telecommunication Masts on top of the Kirby Hotel, central Burnley. Better Burnley Sign, just opposite the telecommunication masts on top of the Kirby Hotel. Nice one Burnley Borough Council and Calico!!!

The above picture is a snapshot from the Ofcom sitefinder which 'supposedly' logs all active mobile phone masts in the UK. Take a look at the Keirby hotel on the far right of the map (KEIRBY WALK), it has at least 2 different operators apparatus using 2 different licences. Sitefinder shows only 1 transmitter/operator (T-MOBILE). There are several transmitters 'missing' from the sitefinder map. I've added a missing TETRA mast (shown as a RED triangle), which is at the Police HQ (see the image below). Theres also a TETRA mast on the BT building off VEEVERS ST. which again I've added as a RED triangle. Not on the sitefinder map but if we venture upwards towards trafalgar st. there are 'two' new masts at the rear of McDonalds, 1 being a TETRA mast. So now all the kids can really get FRIED whilst eating the undernourished pap thats served in said 'food' outlet. 300 metres away theres another TETRA mast at the back of AIT (Florence Ave. off acrrington road) which surprisingly is on the Ofcom site. www.sitefinder.radio.gov.uk/BURNLEY is getting more than its fair share of these masts, I moved recently only to find on a return visit 'THREE' seperate masts all clustered very close together up Ridge avenue/ormerod rd. near Queens park and a secondary school. Is this Site sharing I ask Burnley Council? Have a pic of mast/antennas on a building in barrowford (Nr. white bear pub) so here it is.... BRIERFIELD centre has a couple of small antennas with a new one due to be added in the chimney roof of the old greyhound pub. NELSON Town centre has only 2 masts, 1 being shared on what I think is the GPO building rooftop. COLNE town centre has about 6 masts within 150 metres of each other plus another TETRA mast at Police HQ in the town centre. When visiting Colne centre you need to look upwards to see the mess of masts strewn across the rooftops, it shouldn't be allowed and Pendle council want bloody shooting for allowing so many masts very close together. [glow=red,2,300]Finally, here's a quick QUIZ![/glow] Quiz: Can anyone guess what the strange looking object is in the image above? HINT : it's not a lamp-post but it is at the side of the road. EXTRA points for anyone who can tell me 'where' the strange object is in Burnley. Today's thought... Picture of mast cluster in Soho London...

Hi Guest, Thanks so much for all this information - really helpful and informative. I've no idea where that lamp-post looking mast is in Burnley - tell us please do? I am aware that they've tried to put Masts in church spires. They keep coming up with horrendous venues in the heart of communities to put the ever increasing number of these things. I don't doubt plans are afoot behind closed doors between phone companies and other greedy groups to roll out 4Gs next. The PRISM website on Communigate is also really informative: www.communigate.co.uk/lancs/prism/index.phtmlI'm wondering if there are plans for the next PRISM meeting. Do let us know if there is, as I can't see a date on the above link. (apologies for misspelling of the Keirby - took me a few years to spell Towneley right! ;D) It would be great if all the various residence groups accross Burnley and Pendle that have challenged masts over the last few years could come together for a big meeting and talk about how we move forward. I bet some great ideas would come out of that! Do keep coming back with more information. The number of Masts in the Soho area is today's thought indeed. Thanks so much. Best wishes. Mitch

On Turf Moor Estate, I've been away too long to notice the differences...my family still lives there and doesn't seem to question the actions of the local govt, instead blaming the local 'immigrant' families for all the unrest instead!'. It's a common line to take round these 'ere parts. I've had many arguments with workmates and acquaintences who have thought along the same lines - it's lazy thinking (and ignorance leading to racism and fascism as the case with my acquaintance who became a BNP councillor) because the blame is with governments complicit with greedy big private companies (as is the case with telecommunication masts and housing detioration) - and it serves their interest when people don't blame them - big business/the government, they blame others in their community. It turns us against each other and keeps us passive. Your family has got stuff to learn from you sweets. tarara Mitch xx

LOL, Mitch...thanks for this! I've noticed now that, I think, all the posts from the Pendle area are showing the same IP address, so I wont be doing any accusin' anymore!!
Visitor, sorry for the rogue post above, about immigrants! Don't know how that relates to this thread at all...shame I can't recognise the place in Burnley where that strange object is placed, and I can't guess what the object is either...

Answer: The lamp post type structure in the above picture is a roadside weather station situated at the Gannow Top roundabout in Burnley. Who decides whether to grit the roads or not? The management team within the Environmental Services Division of Burnley Council make these decisions based upon weather forecasts supplied by the Met Office. These forecasts are generated with the assistance of roadside weather stations located around town. They can also get live data from the weather stations at any time to assist with their decision-making.

Hey up visitor, ditto and thanks for that.
But jeez, I thought it was central government that made all the decisions for Burnley Borough Bonkers Council? ;D
(PS. thanks Twitty Ussher for trying to turn the reduction of vital bus services from Colne to Manchester (now only running from Nelson to Manchester) into something apparently to celebrate.
Bonkers!

can't vouch for burnley council, wash mi hands of em.
Why would a town continuously promote itself as wanting to be 'a better' town? I suggest cos it must be thought of as crap in the first place.
but let's take a look at Burnley in the bigger picture, as a whole, it should be filled in

Hey up, What about the football - eek would you fill that in.
Talking of Turf Moor they've creamed in some cash haven't they from Masts around the ground. Get fried on match day - great!
There's a fighting spirit round 'ere, I like it! The history of this area is fighting as well, what with the Independent Labour Party and names like Selina Cooper. Nelson used to be called 'Red Nelson'.
I like the sense of humour round here as well, sharp it is and warm - I plan to stay here for the rest of my life, I'm happy! (sorry to be a little sentimental, but I feel strongly about it) You need a sense of humour round here with the physical state of the area - run down by years of neglect by an incompetent idiot Labour Council.
I know things are bad, I'm not romanticising - but I marvel at the stength of people round here as well. We need to build us confidence a bit to speak out more is all!
Lurv Babs Cartland (sniff!!) ;D

Mobile phone mast at Edge End School in Nelson This mast was installed in April 1993 so it's been active for over 12 years. The school is soon to be demolished, so where will this mast go? Also, if the leasehold was originally for 10 years then a new lease will have been agreed taking the new expiry date up until the year 2013.
