A National Conference on Nutritional Interventions for Tackling Depression
Date: 06 December 2006
Venue: Lancashire County Cricket Club, Manchester
About the conference
Recent news articles have suggested that the changes in the delicate balance of minerals, vitamins, and essential fats in our diets over the last 50 years may be playing a key role in the rise of mental illness (BBC News).
According to Dr Andrew McCulloch, chief executive of the Mental Health Foundation, "We are well aware of the effect of diet upon our physical health but we are only just beginning to understand how the brain as an organ is influenced by the nutrients it derives from the foods we eat and how diets have an impact on our mental health." This national conference examines the links between diet, nutrition and mental and emotional health. It will focus on the latest research into the effects of diet and environment on mild to moderate depression, and provides practical solutions by leading clinicians on how to manage symptoms within an integrated, holistic framework.
