Hiya Mitch...thanks mucho for the support and the compliments re the poster! I've noticed that I've made an error putting 'open MIKE' instead of 'open MIC'! lol, and I haven't placed a tel no. on it for people to contact me for tickets! Silly me...anyway, I'll make the necessary adjustments before we produce the final version. I do promise to stick those notes on here, and forward them to you too, from last night..just haven't got round to doing it yet! See you tomoz for our 'shop crawl'

I thought all those little local businesses we visited around are way were really friendly. We should be able to build on it I reckon. Dug up this extract from Kath Baker's old report - thought you'd be interested sweets. Yep - I think we've to split it up into regions, and then feed in and help each other as a larger group. Looking forward to core group Wed for discussions on this. If we're building in this area we could be approaching networks that are closer to us, in our own community like: www.pendlecommunitynetwork.org.uk/home.aspExtract from KB's report/April 2004 "Personal assessment of outreach work (April 2004) I think that the outreach work has been successful in the sense that a lot of information has gone out to a lot of groups- people know about us. The media coverage generated quite a few phone calls. It would be good to try and get something in the papers and on the radio every couple of months. Membership after 12 weeks stands at about 30, and we are ready to produce the first directory. This feels like quite an achievement. I would have liked more suggestions and feedback throughout the 12 weeks from the core group (this doesn’t include Tess, who has been of the utmost support throughout) as to specific directions they thought should have been prioritised and helping to advertise the scheme, socials and workshops to groups that they come into contact with. Covering such a massive area in such a short space of time really required applying a bit more focus. I think that if development work is to be done for LETS, in the future it should identify a particular target group for recruitment (ie unemployed, ethnic minority, elderly) or a more nuclear area to work in (ie specifically with one or two housing estates). Having to organise a meeting in each of the four boroughs I felt tied my hands a little bit and made me see the need to contact as many groups as possible and organise along the workshop format. I think that although the workshops were successful and will hopefully generate more membership long term (time will tell), going and giving lots of talks to smaller groups and running stalls at small events will be more beneficial. I think that there will be more of these events over the summer months and around xmas time. I think one of the things that held the outreach up a little bit was the fact that the group was not up and running properly during the outreach period. The first few weeks were really spent making decisions as to the group identity and sorting out the practicalities of office space and contact no’s and addresses. Because of this and the slow process of familiarising myself with all of the archive material, it was really only the last two months that were totally dedicated to the outreach work. Operating over such a large area is a really good way to ensure a healthy number of members. However, I think that beyond a certain number of members it might be a good idea to organise the directory regionally. We also need to remember to rotate the social events between the different areas to accommodate people who may not like to stray too far from home, but would still like to trade.' Yep, smaller areas, small teams concentrating on their own immediate areas. best Mitch PS. I've also got a report I did on a visit to Sheffield Lets that was concentrated on one housing estate - really impressed me at the time. Can email it to you if you're interested. tarara x

Hi, thanks for copying this to me Mitch..I think we should print off a few copies to take with us on Wednesday. Very useful document. Please do email me the report from Sheffield, I think the ideas of concentrating our efforts on smaller groups...housing estates/ethnic minorities etc. is really good, and should be followed up...

'Twas a great meeting last night...lots of ideas bandied about by all, not always 'thinking as one mind' teehee! ;D 'Great ideas stem from conflict'...Can't remember who's quote that is, but it's useful!

Hi Mitch...I think you've just about covered all stall holders up to now...except that we'll be having a 'jumble stall' too, to raise funds..
I'll be at Rufus's place tomoz, from about 4pm onward, but can leave in time to get to Nelson for 6pm if you don't think that's too late to leaflet? Not sure whether it'll be dark by then!!! Will check online tomoz daytime for your reply and take it from there.
Jules is taking 170 leaflets down to St.John S'worth primary school tomoz too, and I've to contact St.Paul's again to see if they will accept some as well.

Hi Mitch!! Thanks very, very much for posting these pix and report on the event...it really was superb...thanks not only to me having organised it...lol, but also to the massive help that you gave me practically and spiritually!! and to the hard work and generosity of all other Lets members and our non member friends who chipped in to help in their own way too. We got tons of great feedback from all the families who attended, and lots of requests for us to return again soon with other events. I agree with you that we ought to go for the Open Mic more in the next event as some of the adults were asking what had happened to it on Saturday! I told them we simply ran out of time...they were okay with that but eager for us to arrange one. At such little overheads cost, I'm sure that members of the Core Group could cover the cost of hiring the room for the evening, even if the Lets bank account isn't very rich...perhaps we would have to just lose the buffet this time tho...unless we made it a 'bring a dish' party! Hey...filmshows too...for the kids on a Saturday afternoon perhaps? or for the adults in the evening? Perhaps we could talk to Ken and Helen about the possibility of that in the future...

Yep Mitch! Saturday morning film shows sounds fine to me too...planning, planning, planning. Becki was right you know...she said I'd still carrying on planning stuff such as the events and newsletters even tho I'm supposed to have given myself a break...lol. Btw, did you know it's supposed to be the Secretary's responsibility to produce the newsletters? I'm sure Veronica wouldn't object to us having a major hand in it as usual? What do you think?
