Although health concerns about phone mast radiation were Top of the agenda today in the house of commons, the media attempt to dampen the issue by releasing a statement from a university lecturer that 'all is well and safe'....Most of those who take the issue of electro sensitivity seriously enough, and those campaigning for the safe siting of mobile phone masts, will understand by now that there are two sides to the issues of health effects from chronic exposure to constant pulsed microwaves from mobile phone and TETRA telecommunications masts. from Professor to Prat in one foul swoopUnbeknown to some however, it still seems that the idea of sampling an analogue signal (wave) then applying harmonics will have the same effect on all lifeforms as that of a unidirectional radio wave. At least, that's what Professor Anthony Barker believes and whose thoughts today were published in the national media. Professor Anthony Barker, who has over 30 years' experience studying the biological effects of electromagnetic fields, says mobile phone masts are not more dangerous than common TV or radio transmitters Prof. Barker believes communities that protest at the construction of mobile masts are misinformed, as the proof that they are dangerous is absent. So where's the proof these masts are safe?So it's a lack of information is it? What is obvious about today's media reports from this (ahem) professor is that he is a cake less fruit who has his 'misconceptions' on the basis that 'its been around so long that it can't hurt you'. www.medicalnewstoday.com/healthnews.php?newsid=38840What's worse, is that even to the layman, this media report is so 'old hat' that it only adds to the argument any technology from over 30 years ago if compared to todays digital technology has no credence whatsoever! Cancers don't appear overnight. The onset is said to be precipitated by constant bombardment to the human body from EMF's, thus reducing the bodies effect to combat the attack, which results in 'acceptance' of the body (cells) to the extent that each time the cells are exposed (to emf's) they are less able to repair the previous damage caused by the 'shock' of being irradiated. Pulsed signals produce the shock effect. The shock may be a 'resonance' of the electrical dipoles of cells, easily brought on in those who are electrosensitive (who have weakened cell membranes). We must remember that it is not for some professor from Nutkins University, to tell us that there is no EVIDENCE there is no risk, it is for the government to PROVE to us that there no risk, and as we know, they cannot guarantee that. So the professor is NOW more educated than most of the eminent scientists throughout the world? Highly unlikely.. By the way, this so called professor has not investigated the effects of pulsed microwave radiation, and bases his comments to his poor flock of students (and press) on past knowledge only. Something a 'real' professor would rarely do without backing up his claims with epidemiological proof. How appropriate that this press release appears in the media on the same day the private members 'Telecommunications masts planning control bill' is being considered in parliament? But don't be alarmed, because if the professors 'theory' that history is the best form of future scientific prediction is correct, then we know that the victims of asbestosis won't argue, and that thalidomide was a coincidental side effect of a drug that has been proven in the past to have caused no harm..

Couldn't agree more with your comments Gary, cheers. This perniciously cynical tactic of releasing biased, ill-researched reports to co-incide with key events challenging mobile phone masts (such as this just gone Members Bill) - no doubt bought and paid for by the mobile phone big corporations with full endorsement from the biggest corporation of all 'Government'! is a recurrent joke now - but they keep getting away with it.
I watched the debate online for this members bill and what you had was MPs actually saying that government was NOT LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE on this issue.
Daaaaaaaa, have they only just realised that government doesn't listen to the people. After a good debate, at the end of it Fitzpatrick simply dismissed everything that had been said on health concerns, local residents feeling powerless to stop mobile phone companies, local government councillors feeling their hands are tied by central government policy on phone masts and so forth - all dismissed and passed over.
Utterly ridiculous - we must step up the fight, as no doubt the many, many campaigns against mobile phone masts will be doing across the country.
Good to see you yesterday Gary, no doubt catch you at Wednesday's forthcoming TAM meeting.
Cheers for the info above.
Best Mitch

ON the 3rd Feb 2006 the mast proposed for Summit works on Manchester Road was refused approval for the following reason(s).
The proposed telecommunication equipment would be an obtrusive and unattractive element on this gateway route into the town, contrary to Policy E 23 of the emerging Burnley Local Plan Second Deposit. It has not been sufficiently demonstrated that the proposed site is the best available option, which would serve the needs of the telecommunications operator, whilst minimising the impact on the surrounding area. This is contrary to the policy E25 of the emerging Burnley Local Plan Second Deposit.
Please contact me if you wish to discuss this or would like further information.
For some strange reason the planning officer above seems to suggest the applicant contacts her to discuss the matter further.
Why, when the refusal decision has already been made would a planning officer from Burnley Council invite the applicant to discuss the matter further?
Whichever way, and whatever was 'discussed further' the applicant has now re-applied for a TALLER MAST at the exact same location!
[glow=red,2,300]ARE YOU THINKING WHAT I'M THINKING?[/glow]
The details for this New planning prior approval are shown below. *No detailed plan drawings have been uploaded to Burnley Council's website yet. Anyone concerned will need to look at the planning file labelled NOT/2006/0410 at the planning office (1st floor Parker Lane, across from library).
Letters of objection may need to be in by the 5th June 2006 p.s. the spelling mistakes below were made by whoever uploaded the info to Burnley Council's website...

Yeah, I'm thinking what you're thinking Gary! The centralised power of planning departments in local government now is shocking. They make up the rules as they go along! You know Pendle Borough Council are currently advertising for a planning officer (prior to Liberata's full scale takeover of Pendle - their offices are soon to be errected opposite Nelson Town Hall). The salary is high - (£16,137 - £24,708 per annum) " Description: Pendle Council has a CPA rating of good and is improving all the time. Using Planning Delivery Grant, the Development Control Section has been strengthened - top performance statistics and more recently we have been awarded 21 Pendleton points for electronic planning services. The section now requires someone with the vision, skills and personality to contribute towards further improvement. The principal responsibilities of the post include dealing with planning applications and appeals and advising applicants and agents at both the planning application and pre-application stages." All befitting central government's strategy to reduce the power of councillors - and transfer decision making to Planning Departments and Council Chief Execs - in partnership with Liberata. Their agenda is profit - and phone companies pay high for what they want! I'd suggest a demo outside Summit Works - with banners etc. and for a day, with everyone taking shifts - gathering together all our networks who are opposed to Masts together. That's what I'd suggest. Good to hear from you. Cheers Mitch
